San Francisco: OpenAI has introduced a new USD 100/month ChatGPT Pro subscription, offering a mid‑tier option for users who rely heavily on its AI coding tool, Codex. The new plan sits between the USD 20 Plus tier and the USD 200 Pro tier.
For a long time, users had to jump directly from USD 20 a month to USD 200 a month for higher usage limits. The new USD 100 plan is designed to fill that gap and give developers a more affordable upgrade.
OpenAI said the USD 100 Pro plan offers 5 times more Codex usage compared to the Plus plan. This makes it more suitable for long coding sessions and complex development work.
For the unversed, Codex is OpenAI’s AI-powered coding assistant integrated into ChatGPT. It helps developers write, review, and debug code, and has seen rapid growth in recent months.
According to OpenAI, more than 3 million people use Codex every week, a five‑fold increase over the past 3 months. Its usage is also growing by more than 70% month‑over‑month.
The company says the new pricing tier is meant to compete directly with Anthropic’s Claude Code, which already offers a USD 100/month option. OpenAI claims Codex delivers greater coding capacity per dollar at similar price levels.
To attract early adopters, OpenAI is temporarily increasing Codex limits for USD 100 Pro subscribers. Until May 31, 2026, users can access even higher usage before hitting rate limits. However, the company clarified that none of the plans offer unlimited usage. Rate limits still apply across all tiers, including the USD 100 and USD 200 Pro plans.
The company confirmed that the USD 200 Pro plan remains available, offering up to 20 times more Codex usage than Plus. Both Pro versions include the same core features, with usage limits being the main difference.
OpenAI also noted that it is adjusting how Codex works in the Plus plan. Instead of allowing intense usage in a single day, the goal is to support more stable use throughout the week.
The launch reflects the rising demand for AI coding tools. Developers increasingly rely on assistants like Codex to speed up workflows and handle repetitive tasks.
With the USD 100 Pro plan, as such, OpenAI hopes to keep power users on ChatGPT rather than losing them to competing AI platforms. The company is clearly establishing Codex as an integral part of its ecosystem.
