Anthropic Brings Claude Chat and Cowork Together Into a Single Window

Bengaluru: Anthropic has combined Claude’s chat and Cowork into one interface, so users no longer have to figure out which tab fits which task.

The unified interface lets people use chat, Cowork, and Artifacts, Claude’s interactive workspace feature, inside one window. Claude Design, which launched in April for website and prototype design, now works anywhere within Claude too. The new design routes requests automatically, so users do not need to switch between tabs or windows.

The company said the changes came after users complained about having to pick the right tool for each task. Anthropic had earlier kept large tasks in Cowork and visual work in Claude Design, which meant users had to judge the type of task before even making a request.

Along with the interface change, Anthropic is adding tools for documents and presentations. Claude Docs lets users draft documents inside a conversation, comment on finished sections, and then export to Google Docs or Microsoft Word. Claude Slides builds and edits presentations in the same window, with downloads available as PowerPoint or PDF files. A document starts out private, and the user can choose to share it with colleagues when collaborating. Users can also start a task on desktop and check its progress later from the mobile app.

Pro and Max subscribers get the update first across web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks, with Free and Team tiers to follow later.

The update builds on earlier groundwork. On August 25, Anthropic merged the memory layer behind chat and Cowork so that context picked up in one place carries over to the other, switched on by default across Free, Pro, and Max plans. Before that, on July 7, Anthropic had expanded Cowork to web and mobile and brought chat and Cowork projects and artifacts into a single home, although users still had to choose between the two when starting a conversation.

Anthropic says Claude asks before taking actions by default, but users can switch it to work on its own and check in only when needed.

The move also arrives at a competitive moment for the industry. Both Anthropic and OpenAI are reportedly moving toward IPOs, where enterprise revenue and user retention matter to public market investors. A simpler interface aimed at non-coders could widen Anthropic’s reach beyond software developers and AI researchers.
