Instagram Lets Users Rearrange Profile Grids After Years of Calls

MENLO PARK, Calif.: Instagram has introduced Grid Reordering, a feature that allows users to manually rearrange posts on their profile for the very first time since the platform launched. The feature was announced on June 8 with a global rollout starting the same week.

Using it is simple. Users just long-press any post, tap the “Reorder Grid” option, and drag their posts into whichever order they prefer. Once saved, the new arrangement is immediately visible to anyone visiting the profile from anywhere in the world.

The update is being widely welcomed by creators, influencers, and businesses who have long wanted more control over how their Instagram profiles look to visitors.

The feature ranks among Instagram’s most-requested updates from creators and casual users alike. Previously, posts appeared strictly in chronological order with no manual override available. Pinning three posts at the top was the only available customization mechanism.

Pinned posts and reels remain fixed at the top regardless of rearrangement choices below. Users now group content series, multi-part stories, tutorials, and project work logically. Older posts can resurface for new followers without requiring fresh content creation.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri previously apologized to users whose carefully curated grids were disrupted. The platform’s earlier shift from square thumbnails to vertical previews broke many existing layouts. Grid Reordering addresses that disruption while adding genuine new creative flexibility.

Meta positions the feature around highlighting new eras, refreshing aesthetics, and showcasing key work. Creators benefit from controlling which posts visitors see first without losing chronological history. The change targets engagement gains by letting profiles feel curated rather than feed-driven.

“Grid Reordering makes it easier to shape your profile around what feels most relevant to you right now,” Meta says in the announcement.

The rollout reaches both Android and iOS users through the latest app versions. Instagram briefly tested similar functionality years ago before pulling it without explanation. The renewed launch reflects sustained creator pressure for editorial control over profile presentation.

The feature arrives as Meta competes aggressively against TikTok and Snapchat for creator loyalty.
