Obsidian
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.: Obsidian Security raises $85 million in Series D funding, pushing its valuation past $1.1 billion and into unicorn territory.
Crescent Cove Advisors leads the August 4 round. Greylock Partners and Menlo Ventures join. Total funding now tops $200 million for the company, founded back in 2017 to secure SaaS environments and now squarely focused on AI-era threats.
The customer math explains the valuation better than the label does. More than 100 customers spend over $100,000 a year with Obsidian. Fourteen of them spend above $1 million annually. Sixty of the Fortune 500 trust the platform to watch their AI and cloud environments. Those are retention numbers, not pilot programs.
The timing is no accident. Enterprises spent 2026 wiring AI agents into email, CRMs, codebases, and finance systems. Each agent holds credentials and takes actions that traditional security tooling was never built to monitor. Boards started asking what could go wrong, and security chiefs needed vendors to point at.
Capital has followed the anxiety in a rush. AegisAI closed $36 million two weeks ago with Battery and Accel. Straiker took $64 million in June for agentic security. Obsidian’s unicorn round caps a summer in which AI security graduated from niche to line item.
The incumbents noticed too. Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike are racing to bolt agent protection onto existing platforms, and their distribution advantage is real. Obsidian’s bet is that a decade of SaaS-security depth beats a retrofitted module.
The fresh capital funds engineering and enterprise expansion. Given what a UK government lab published this same week about AI agents behaving badly, the sales calls should not be difficult.
