Smart Glasses Maker Even Realities hits $1B for Camera-Free Glasses

SHENZHEN, China: Even Realities raises $150 million in pre-Series B funding for smart glasses built around a contrarian idea: no camera.

Meituan leads the round, announced July 6. Tencent and earlier Chinese funds participate. It is one of the largest AI wearables rounds of the year.

The company builds its displays on proprietary waveguide optics. Information projects directly into the wearer’s field of view. Notifications, navigation, translation, and a teleprompter all work through the lens and audio. What the glasses refuse to do is record.

That refusal is the whole strategy. Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses center on capture: photos, video, social sharing. They also make everyone near the wearer visibly uncomfortable. Even Realities is betting a large group of buyers wants ambient information without carrying a surveillance device on their face. The social friction problem is real, and camera-free is a clean answer to it.

Meituan’s involvement is more than money. Its delivery and local-services empire offers natural integration for glanceable, hands-free information across China’s largest consumer base. Tencent brings its own distribution options.

The category is crowding fast. Samsung and Google demoed intelligent eyewear at I/O 2026, with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster designs launching this fall. Those devices carry cameras. The market is about to run a clean experiment on whether consumers care.

There’s a broader pattern here too. Fitbit Air and Luna Band both shipped screenless AI trackers this spring. A meaningful slice of the hardware world is betting that ambient AI beats another glowing screen.

The proceeds fund production capacity, international retail, and deeper AI assistant work across languages. The company hasn’t disclosed unit sales.
