SAN FRANCISCO: Anthropic has launched Claude Design, a new product that lets users create visual work from plain-language prompts. The tool is available as a research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. It is powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Anthropic’s most capable vision model, released the same day.

Claude Design is built for people who are not starting from a design tool. Founders, product managers, and marketers can describe what they need, a pitch deck, a prototype, a one-pager, a marketing asset, and Claude builds a first version. Users refine from there through conversation, inline comments, direct edits, or custom sliders that Claude generates itself.

The design system feature is the standout capability for enterprise teams. Claude Design reads a company’s codebase and design files to learn its colours, typography, and visual conventions. Every project after that applies those conventions automatically. Teams can maintain more than one design system and switch between them as needed.

Reference inputs go beyond text. Users can upload sketches, images, or documents as a starting point. An enterprise feature called web capture lets teams snapshot elements from their website and feed them directly into the tool. The output can be exported as PDF, PPTX, HTML, or handed off to Claude Code to turn into a working build.

Canva is an integration partner, not a competitor. Anthropic positioned Claude Design as the place where ideas take shape before moving to Canva for editing, collaboration, and publishing. Canva’s CEO confirmed the partnership in Anthropic’s press release.

The market reacted immediately. Figma’s stock dropped approximately 7% after the announcement. Claude CPO Mike Krieger, the Instagram co-founder, had stepped down from Figma’s board just days earlier. The timing was not lost on the industry. Claude Design was built by Anthropic Labs, the experimental product team that Krieger now co-leads. More task-specific products from the same team are expected in the coming weeks.
